Solution Delivered

The Problem

The client is a large manufacturer of value-added wood products. As part of its process, it is necessary to trim paper from the edges of wood panels after it is glued on. The paper that is removed is long and sticky. Collection and transport of the paper was insufficient and caused production delays and clogging of ducting.

An AVID Evaluation

  • Effectively capture paper trim at point of removal.
  • Transport paper trim to dust collection without settling in and clogging ducting.
  • Specify a dust collection system to collect paper trim without losing capacity due to buildup.

Recommendations
& Implementation

  • Specification of suitable dust collection system with appropriate reverse pulse and filter area to meet design requirements.
  • Design of a ‘push / pull’ paper collection system to remove the paper from the wood and collect it in a hood for transport to the new dust collection system.
  • Design of ductwork to ensure effective transport of paper trim to the dust collector with provisions for fire suppression, inspection, and cleaning.

Custom
Solution

The project was successful due to collaboration with the client and system operators.
  • Increased production time / decreased down time.
  • Increased line processing time due to effective paper trim removal.
  • Decreased maintenance time because of less clogging.
